The IEP Technologies EVM Explosion Relief Valve is designed to protect systems and equipment against the effects of explosion pressure in industrial environments or other applications with explosion hazards. Explosion relief valves are commonly used in systems that store, process, or convey flammable/explosive materials such as powders, dusts, vapors, or gas mixtures.

Overview of the EVM Explosion Relief Valve

The EVM is a flameless, reusable relief device designed to protect personnel and equipment in the event of a gas explosion or engine misfire/backfire. During an event, the device opens by lifting the valve plate and vents the explosion through a flame-arresting element, preventing flame from exiting to the surrounding area. The EVM uses multiple coil springs; immediately after the overpressure event, the plate recloses and resets.

Applications of the EVM Explosion Relief Valve

Explosions can occur in engine exhaust piping as well as downstream piping when gaseous fuels are used. Unburned fuel can enter the exhaust of dual-fuel or gas engines, particularly during startup or fuel-mapping phases. Misfire/backfire mitigation techniques—together with the use of a relief valve—are a proven way to reduce equipment damage from overpressure and flame and to help prevent personnel injury.
